Engraving has been around for centuries. Most likely as far back as the 500 B.C. have craftsmen and artisan been engraving metal products. The items engraved at that time ranged from plates and bowls to jewelry and urns. Engraving at that time was done by hand engraving with nothing more that hand tools.
Engraving was often done for royals or the ruling class. Later on, engraving was done for many families that had family crests and insignia marks.
For most of time engraving has been an ancient tradition of the upper class.
